Challenge
The company wanted to explore and understand emerging technologies with the potential to disrupt the healthcare and pharma landscape, either as opportunities to generate revenue or threats to existing business models. The objective was to uncover transformative technologies and assess their impact on the future of healthcare broadly, as well as on the company’s operations specifically. These insights were to guide the development of innovative digital solutions that could be incubated as part of a corporate venture building initiative.
Approach
- Conducted broad trend and technology scouting with a focus on data and patient empowerment, envisioning future healthcare scenarios
- Analysed the conditions required for these potential scenarios to become reality
- Ideated digital health solutions derived from the scenarios, evaluating their potential for disruptive innovation, and recommending one to explore further
- Identified innovative digital health startups to partner with and collaboratively design and test the solution
- Negotiated partnership agreements, onboarded collaborators and oversaw the conceptual and technical development
- Evaluated the potential impact of the venture on the company
Results
- Novel idea generation: Defined a novel value proposition that would empower patients to own, control, and share their health data with service providers to receive personalised health recommendations
- Idea validation: Validated the desirability and technical feasibility of integrating multiple data sources into a patient-controlled digital health app together with external partners
- Strategic insight creation: Informed the company’s strategic decision making around leveraging patient data for the advancement of (digital) therapeutics, early screening, and precision medicine
